Victory Garden Security Update -

UPDATE:

The commissioner of parks has sent official communication to FGS President, Tim Horn, and asked that he enforce the site lines rules as outlined in the garden rules and regulations.

If you cannot see from one end of your garden to the other, or you have hedge style growth, this must be modified to meet the rules we all agreed to when we signed up or renewed our plots.

Anything in your garden that creates a place where someone could hide is against the rules, period.

A copy of this letter from April 22 is below:

Subject: Fenway Community Gardens

TO: Mr.. Tim Horn, President

FROM: Commissioner Toni Pollak

DATE: April 22, 2010

Thank you for taking the time to meet with the Boston Police and myself regarding safety issues at the Fenway Community Garden. I think it was a very useful exchange and I believe that a closer working relationship between the Boston Police and the Garden will continue to improve public safety.

As we discussed, one of the Parks Dept. and Police Dept. concerns is the need for visibility into each garden plot.  Over time, fences, plant material and trees have created visual barriers.  As per our agreement with the Garden Society it is important to keep open visual access and I ask you to enforce this important garden rule.

Again, thank you and I look forward to continuing to work with you to improve the Fenway Gardens
